Tal Chhapar is dominated by grassland vegetation, with species such as Mothiya grass (which is a favorite of blackbucks), Acacia (Babool), and Khejri (Prosopis cineraria). The sanctuary also has seasonal salt flats and small water bodies, which provide crucial resources for birds and animals. The landscape remains dry for most of the year, with grasses turning lush green after the monsoon.

Fauna

The sanctuary is best known for its healthy population of blackbucks, which can be seen grazing gracefully across the open plains. Other mammals found here include desert foxes, Indian wolves, and nilgai (blue bulls). Tal Chhapar is also famous for its birdlife, particularly raptors like Montagu’s harrier, Pallid harrier, Laggar falcon, and Short-toed eagle. During winter, the sanctuary becomes a temporary home to a variety of migratory birds, including demoiselle cranes and Eurasian rollers.
