Flora

Keoladeo National Park consists of marshlands, woodlands, and dry grasslands, making it a diverse habitat for birds and animals. The wetlands are dominated by water hyacinth, sedges, and water lilies, while the dry areas have Kadamba (Neolamarckia cadamba), Jamun (Syzygium cumini), Babul (Acacia nilotica), and Ber (Ziziphus mauritiana). These plant species provide shelter and nesting grounds for a variety of bird species throughout the year.

Fauna

The park is best known for its migratory and resident bird species, including painted storks, pelicans, cormorants, herons, and kingfishers. The rare Siberian crane, once a winter visitor, has become a symbol of the park’s global significance. Besides birds, the park is also home to spotted deer, nilgai (blue bull), wild boars, jackals, and pythons. The presence of aquatic species such as turtles, frogs, and fish further enriches the ecosystem, making it a thriving wetland habitat.
